The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating effect of that playfulness on the part of children has on the relationship between father attachment and school adjustment, as perceived by the child. The subjects comprised 330 elementary school students from 5th to 6th grades in Seoul and Kyung-ki province. The influence of father attachment and a child¡¯s playfulness on school adjustment was investigated. For the purposes of data analysis, the statistical program(SPSS, version 19.0) was used. Correlation and hierarchical regression analysis were also performed. The main results of this study were as follows. First, the moderating effect of child¡¯s playfulness shows a statistically significant correlation in the relationship of father attachment and school adjustment. Second, when there was a low degree of father attachment, the children with levels of playfulness showed a little difference in school adjustment. Third, when there was a high degree of father attachment, the children with high levels of playfulness showed remarkably better school adjustment than the children with low levels of playfulness. This study is important in that it clearly demonstrates that there is an important relationship between father attachment and a child¡¯s sense of playfulness, and especially under the conditions of a strongly developed sense of father attachment, child¡¯s sense of playfulness has very positive effect on school adjustment.
